Our vocal team are:
Skilled vocalists (Some have formal training)
Able to sing modern worship music well.
Active members of Journey Church
Our instrumental band members are:
Proficient at their instrument(s), and
Have their own high-quality instrument and equipment.
As a music team, we are passionate about creating a quality sound and experience for our listeners here at Journey Church, so we accept new band members on an audition-only basis. Vocalists that excel on this team share many of the following qualities:
- Excellent pitch, diction, timing, and stage presence
- Able to find and sing harmonies comfortably without assistance.
- Memorize music and lyrics quickly (we do not have charts on stage).
- Lead songs comfortably in front of a large crowd.
- Comfortable singing modern style worship music.
- Live a life "outside of church" that represents Christ and Journey Church well.
- Display a selfless and workable attitude.
Instrumentalists that excel on this team share many of the following qualities:
Drummers/Percussionists:
- Comfortable playing with a click track (we use in-ear-monitors, and always play with a click). This skill is very pertinent to the whole band's success.
- Able to hold down a solid groove and play modern worship-style beats with ease.
- Display a selfless and workable attitude
Bass Players:
- Able to play with a click track and hold down a solid groove with the drummer
- Able to memorize music. (We don't use any charts on stage)
- Display a selfless and workable attitude
Acoustic Guitar Players:
- Able to play modern worship style music well (including muted grooves, and holding down the rhythmic feel of the band while playing chords).
- Excellent timing and accuracy, and comfortable playing with a click-track and in-ear-monitors.
- Able to memorize music (we don't use charts on stage)
- Display a selfless and workable attitude.
Electric Guitar Players:
- Familiar with modern worship style music and have the equipment (pedals, effects, etc.) to create that sound.
- Have very accurate timing and be able to play with a click track and in-ear-monitors.
- Able to chord and play lead lines/solos comfortably.
- Able to memorize music (we don't use charts on stage)
- Display a selfless and workable attitude
Keyboard Players:
- Proficient at modern worship style music.
- Able to play by chords (we do not use traditional written music).
- Able to memorize music. (we do not use charts on stage).
- Able to transition between songs and keys well.
- Excellent accuracy and timing, and be comfortable playing with a click-track and in-ear-monitors.
- Display a selfless and workable attitude
ANY other instrument:
- It fits with modern style worship music.
